Mechanical Technician

We are seeking a multi-skilled Mechanical Technician to support the build, assembly, and manufacture of bespoke machinery and mechanical systems.

This role is hands-on and workshop-based, suited to someone who enjoys working with metal, machinery, and physical systems rather than purely theoretical design. This position focuses on fabrication, assembly, installation, and practical problem-solving.

You will work closely with mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and technicians to turn designs and drawings into robust, real-world machines. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Fabricate and assemble mechanical structures, machines, and components

  • Operate fabrication equipment such as press brakes, laser cutters, drills, and saws

  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively

  • Assemble machines and sub-assemblies from as-built and manufacturing drawings

  • Support mechanical installation, alignment, and commissioning activities

  • Modify and rework components where required during prototyping or build

  • Assist with fault-finding and mechanical improvements on existing systems

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment

Must Haves
  • Strong hands-on mechanical skills

  • Experience operating fabrication machinery (e.g. press brake, laser cutter, or similar)

  • Confident using hand tools and power tools

  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and as-built documentation

  • Practical problem-solving mindset

  • Good attention to detail and build quality

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Nice to Haves
  • Welding experience (MIG / TIG / fabrication welding)

  • Experience assembling industrial machinery or automation equipment

  • Basic machining experience (lathe, mill, etc.)

  • Experience working with aluminium, steel, and stainless steel

  • On-site installation or commissioning experience

  • Awareness of mechanical tolerances and fit-up

Minimum Qualifications
  • Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 2/3, HNC, or equivalent experience in:

    • Mechanical Engineering

    • Manufacturing

    • Fabrication

    • Maintenance Engineering

      OR

  • Proven industry experience demonstrating equivalent skills

Responsibilities
